Registration underway for Grand Parade of Cotton and Tournoi
The annual Grand Parade of Cotton and Tournoi, sponsored by the Louisiana Cotton Festival Association and the Louisiana Tournoi Knights and Ladies Auxiliary, will be Sunday, October 12, in Ville Platte.
Lineup will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Dupre and Main streets.
The cost to register for this year’s parade will be state politicians, $100; local politicians, $50; dance groups and walking units, $25; trailers, $20; and cars and trucks, $10. (A truck pulling a trailer is considered a trailer. A truck by itself falls under the cars and trucks category.) Homecoming courts, boy and girl scout troops and bands will be allowed to participate for free.
No four-wheelers, horses or motorcycles will be allowed, except for those approved by the boards. An example would be the Tournoi riders, who will be participating in this year’s parade.
Remember to report to the following areas:
•Mikey’s Donuts: Dance groups, walking units, marching bands.
•Citizen’s Bank: Cars and authorized motorcycles.
•Trucks with trailers: South Dupre St.
•Tournoi horses: Old hospital lot.
•Floats and radio stations.: Main Street - Floats will be on the right and others on the left.
No vehicles will be allowed in the parade route area of Dupre Street unless you are in the parade. If you must drop someone off, you should use Main, Thompson or Magnolia streets. Please be patient and follow the parade organizers. We are attempting to make sure everyone is safe. Please drive slowly and watch for children and other parade participants.
