The Rev. Stafford Rogers

Stafford G. Rogers, 95, of Trade, Tenn., formerly of Baton Rouge, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Johnson County Community Hospital, Mountain City.

 Rev. Rogers was born May 11, 1913 in Alexandria, LA, to the late George Grady Rogers and Mittie McCullin Rogers. He married Mary Lois Burns after a brief courtship, and their marriage lasted 69 years.

He began his working life as manager of a grocery store in Pineville, LA, but soon entered the Baptist ministry. He served as pastor of several churches, including Oakdale Baptist, New Iberia First Baptist, Pilgrim Rest Baptist, Eunice, and Brookstown Baptist in Baton Rouge.

He also was superintendent at Acadia Baptist Academy, Eunice, LA, and chaplain at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He served Brookstown Baptist Church as Pastor Emeritus during his final years in Baton Rouge.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, his sister, Estelle Rogers Cameron, and his brother, W. C. “Dub” Rogers.

Survivors include his daughter, Annice Rogers Breeden, of Lake Charles, LA, and his son, Donald Stafford Rogers and wife, Peggy, of Trade; grandchildren: Jeffrey Breeden and wife Melinda of Baton Rouge, Sharon Breeden Hastings and husband David of Baton Rouge, Maura Rogers of La Verne, CA, and Rachel Rogers of Marion, VA. He also had nine great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Don Hoy at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, Tuesday at 1 pm.

Visitation with the family will take place at the funeral home beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow the funeral at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge.  Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Breeden, Camron Breeden, David Hastings, Jeffrey Hastings, Bobby Walker, and Martin Carroll. Honorary pallbearer will be Barney Gene Wilborn.
