Revamped Relay for Life event planning begins

CROWLEY – During a planning meeting held by the Relay For Life of Acadia’s committee Monday night, the group began the necessary steps to make the 2012 event a great success.
One of the biggest things being pushed by the team is a revamped “Relay for Life” starting with a potential new location.
Both Camille Breaux, community chair, and Brandon Touchet, executive director, agreed that they would like to see the event return to Crowley.
The committee was in agreement that the Acadia Parish event of the Relay for Life was at its best when held in Crowley and the group hopes to recapture that magic.
Breaux agreed and the committee is looking to secure a location soon.
The committee also has decided on a new theme and title for the upcoming event, which it promises is both fun and fitting for Relay for Life.
The October meeting served as a touch-base meeting that began the new Relay for Life year. Committee members will now move forward from planning to acting. They will actively try to get new teams interested while inviting old teams to return.
The committee is hoping for a great turnout both at the kickoff event and May’s Relay for Life. To help ensure that, the committee is planning a revamped invitation system as well. Last year’s teams as well as others can look forward to those new invitations coming soon.
The group hopes the new personal touch will help remind people what has made Relay for Life so great in the past and can continue to make it great today.
The next step is the Relay for Life of Acadia’s kickoff event, which will be held Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. Cancer survivors, past team leaders and new team leaders are invited to learn more about the May 2012 event where this year’s theme and title as well as much other helpful information will be revealed.
Relay for Life of Acadia welcomes all interested in learning about the event, starting a team and/or cancer survivors to attend.
