RHS Class of 1958 celebrates reunion

The Rayne High School graduating class of 1958 gathered on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne for their 50-year class reunion.

The weekend for the classmates and guests began with the Friday morning Alumni Reception held in the RHS library, followed by a luncheon. Later that afternoon, many classmates attended the pep rally in the school gym and the Homecoming Game that evening.

Reunion committee members include Katherine and Elwood Broussard, Nason Leger, Lorraine Simoneaux, Johnny Meche, Calice and Julia Breaux, and Lois Myers.

The school colors of purple and gold, along with the blue and white class colors, were used for decorations and table centerpieces of the decor. Snoopy graduate figurines were also noted on the reception tables surrounded by gladiolas blooms.

Guests were served a menu choice of entrees including seafood, steak and grilled chicken, set against a backdrop of musical entertainment including selections of the 50’s and 60’s music.

Door prizes were awarded throughout the evening, collected by Elwood Broussard, Harold McBride, Calice Breaux, Katherine Broussard, Shirlene Dugas, Ardell Nugent, Gilbert Cormier, Nason Leger, Betty Hankins and Rodney Richard.

A special memory board was displayed in honor of the 16 deceased classmates, including Barbara Arceneaux Lambert, Francis Nolan Begnaud, John Bourque, Myron Chiasson, Charlie Daigle, Pat Gautreaux, Jane Guidry Meaux, Dean Hayes, Jessie Hoffpauir, Stephen Istre, Uda Roy Leger, Theresa Leon Leger, Ervin Sonnier, Barbara Thibodeaux Leger, Judy Trahan Vincent and Joseph Venable.

Classmates and guests numbered 77 from points of Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, California and Connecticut.

Special guests in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Coffman, class sponsors.

Class officers included president Johnny Meche, vice president Richard Foreman, secretary Delores Arsement and treasurer Dudley Simon.

The class flower was the gladiolas, class colors were blue and white, and the class motto was “Let Us Be Seen By Our Deeds.”
