Richland Parish teams switch LHSAA districts
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has finished making changes to the classification districts for school sports for the upcoming year.
The executive committee approved the redistricting plans for all seven classifications March 12. Since the basic districts were ratified by the executive committee and its decisions are final, there is no appeal process for the districts and they are set for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years.
This means new district foes for several Richland Parish schools.
The biggest change will be for Mangham High School which is moving from Class 1 to Class 2 for the upcoming season.
Instead of playing in the district with 1A schools Delhi, Delhi Charter, Oak Grove and Tensas, Mangham will play in Class 2A District 2 along with Farmerville, Ferriday, Lake Providence, Sterlington and Jonesboro-Hodge. Only Jonesboro-Hodge’s football team will play in this district. The school’s other sports will play in District 3.
Rayville High School will remain in Class 3A but will now play in District 2 along with Caldwell, Carroll, Madison and Richwood.
By moving from District 1 to District 2, Rayville loses B.T. Washington, Green Oaks and Wossman as district rivals but gains Caldwell and Carroll.
Delhi High and Delhi Charter schools will remain in Class 1A but will move to District 2 to face rivals Cedar Creek, Oak Grove, Ouachita Christian and St. Frederick.
