Richland schools select district students of the year
Sixteen student representatives from Richland Parish presented personal portfolios and answered individual interviews before four judges, as they vied for the district Student of the Year title Jan. 14.
The top three representatives, Cody Williams, Alison Ogden and Amit Rajkarniker will participate in Regional competition, to be held Feb. 9 through March 20 where, again, their academic portfolios, interviews and writing samples will be judged prior to the state nominations.
Student representatives for the fifth grades were Delhi Charter School, Thomas Hale; Rayville Elementary, Jalon Chatmon; Start Elementary, Caleb Hamm; Delhi Middle School, Latia Hopkins; Holly Ridge Elementary, Taylor Antley; and Mangham Elementary, Cody Williams. The fifth grade overall district winner was Cody Williams from Mangham Elementary.
Student representatives for the eight grades were Rayville Junior High, Jonathan Wallace; Mangham Junior High, Zaidee Cutch; Delhi Middle School, Rasheed Godbolt; Delhi Charter School, Alison Ogden; Start Elementary, Katie Beth Hable; and Holly Ridge Elementary, Dustin Bell. The eightth grade overall district winner was Alison Ogden from Delhi Charter School.
Student representatives for the twelfth grades were Mangham High School, Brittany McKinley; Delhi High School Shaletta McDade; Rayville High School, Max Henry; and Delhi Charter School, Amit Rajkarniker. The twelfth grade overall district winner was Amit Rajkarniker, Delhi Charter School.
Volunteer judges were Dr. Augusta Clark, ULM, professor, Educational Leadership and Counseling, Albert Christman, president and chief executive officer, Guarantee Bank, Wayne Hopper, director, Richland Arts Center and Frank Bobo, assistant facilitator, Technology and Learning Center, ULM, Monroe.
The judges extended accolades to the quality of the student interviews and the academics from the students overall. The students were well prepared and represented their schools with pride.
