Rodney William Lejeune

IOTA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iota for Rodney William Lejeune, 79, who died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at 9:05 a.m.

Fr. Mikel Polson, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate for the services.

The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to service time. A Rosary will be recited Sunday at 6 p.m. by Fr. David Broussard, pastor of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and former pastor of St. Joseph, Iota. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. Mr. Lejeune farmed just north of Iota for 65 years, farming rice, soybeans, wheat, crawfish and cattle. After his retirement from farming he began his home garden and gave most all of his crops to those in need in the community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and former grand knight, faithful adorer at St. Lawrence Catholic Church adoration chapel, retreat captain to Our Lady of the Oaks retreat house in Grand Coteau for over 50 years, Eucharistic minister to the home bound and past lecturer at St. Joseph Catholic Church, former member of Iota-Egan Lions Club, he was a St. Francis supporter and graduate along with all of his children and many of his grandchildren. He was a humble man who dedicated his life to the underprivileged and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clarice Zaunbrecher Lejeune of Iota; five daughters, Cynthia L. Nobles and her husband Howard of Baton Rouge; Sharon L. Menard and her husband Ron of Baton Rouge, Judy L. Burton and her husband of Pineville, Kay L. Duos and her husband Clay of Eunice, Mary Ellen L. Sistrunk and her husband Tim of Baton Rouge; two sons, Michael W. Lejeune and his wife Monica of Iota, Timothy D. Lejeune and his wife Marilyn of Hammond; his twin sisters, Hilda L. Carrier and Wilda L. Thevis both of Eunice; 15 Grandchildren, Ashley M. Fontenot, Allison Menard, Aaron Burton, Andrea Burton, Will Burton, Caroline Duos, Claire Duos, Natalie Duos, Micaela L. Lavergne, Caitlin L. LeBlanc, Jake Michael Lejeune, Joshua Lejeune, Courtney Lejeune, Amelia Lejeune, Abby Lejeune; four great-grandchildren, Ava and Claire Burton, Emma and Wade Lavergne.

Pallbearers will be Howard Nobles, Dr. Ron Menard, James Burton, Dr. Clay Duos, Tim Sistrunk and Aaron Burton. Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Hebert, C. A. Fabacher and Charlie Lejeune.

Mr. Lejeune was preceded in death by his parents, Willie E. and Olivet Deshay Lejeune; two infant grandchildren, Nicholas and Samuel Lejeune; his in-laws, Nick M. and Josephine Cramer Zaunbrecher.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Francis School in Iota.
