CROWLEY – Ross Elementary School received an unexpected but much-needed surprise on Monday afternoon when representatives from United Way of Acadiana dropped off donated supplies for the upcoming school year.

United Way’s “Kits for Kidz” School Supply Program, which covers Acadia, Vermilion, Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes, is handing out a pre-packaged school supply kit to 447 first grade students.

Three spiral notebooks, three folders, one bottle of glue, three glue sticks, one pack of filler paper, one box of Crayola crayons, three erasers, one box of facial tissue, one box of pencils, one pair of scissors, one box of markers, one ruler, one pencil case, one sharpener, one box of pencil cap erasers, one highlighter, one paint set, three pens, and one coloring book are included in these school supply kits.

“United Way of Acadiana believes that we all win when children succeed in school,” said Keler C. Williams, Volunteer Center director. “By providing the students here with school supplies, we believe they are better equipped to succeed in school.”

Teachers and administrators at Ross were clearly thrilled by the supply kits.

“We at Ross Elementary are elated at the thought of United Way providing these kits to help our students,” stated Ross Principal T.J. Sonnier. “We are appreciative for the outpouring of support that we have received, not only from United Way, but the City of Crowley and the citizens. On behalf of all the students I’d like to say thank you, and we appreciate the school supplies.”

The United Way of Acadiana Volunteer Center and its Corporate Volunteer Council Members, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Albertson’s Stores, Fugro Companies, Capital One, Remington College, Our Lady of Lourdes, The Schumacher Group, Schlumberger, Target Stones, Stone Energy, Wright, Moore, Dehart, Dupuis and Hutchinson, and United Parcel Services, make the “Kits for Kidz” School Supply Program possible.
