Ross Teacher of the Year chosen

CROWLEY – It was the surprise of a lifetime for Audrey Spencer, who is a teacher at Ross Elementary in Crowley.
On Tuesday, October 22, Spencer earned a well-deserved title of Teacher of the Year.
Representatives from Wal-Mart, sponsor of the award, principal of the school and the Post Signal greeted her while she was in her classroom with showers of gifts which included a $100 gift certificate, a $1000 check to Ross Elementary, a teacher of the year T-shirt, flowers, a cake and punch to celebrate. “We do this every year to encourage our teachers, students and parents,” said Jennifer Malbreaux, co-manager of Wal-Mart in Crowley. “We received many nice letters asking that Ms. Spencer be nominated for the award.”
“I have been a teacher for 34 years. It will be 35 years in December. This is a great way to end my 34th and begin the next year for me,” Spencer said through happy tears. “I love my job, and I’m just trying to make a difference,” she added. Spencer spends much of her extra time tutoring and doing whatever she can to help the students she teaches.
Congratulations, Ms. Spencer for a job well done.
