ROUNDUP: Mills' buzzer-beater lifts Gents past Westlake

CROWLEY – Andre Mills saved his best for last Tuesday in the Crowley Gents’ home showdown with Westlake.

With the Gents trailing by two and time winding down, Mills, who had been held scoreless for over three quarters, drilled a 3-pointer from the wing as time expired to lift the Gents to a 44-43 District 4-3A victory over the Rams.

The Gents improved to 11-12 overall and 2-3 in league play with the victory.

“Andre didn’t take many shots tonight, but when we needed him the most, he came through,” said CHS coach Derrick Boone. “The play wasn’t really designed for any one player because the offense that we were in, we had three options.

“But Andre took it at the right time. It wasn’t out of rhythm or a Hail Mary type of play. He got a good look at the basket and knocked it down.”

The Gents also got a big performance from Marcus Williams. The junior forward scored 13 points in the second quarter and finished the night with a team-high 21 points.

Damon Malbrough followed with nine points and Danny Malbrough added eight. Mills and Jesse Harmon each finished with three points.
