ROUNDUP: Pios upend Westlake
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pioneers remaind perfect in District 4-3A play Friday with a 7-3 victory over Westlake at Miller Stadium.
The Pios improved to 12-11 on the season and 6-0 in league play with the victory. The Rams fell to 7-13 and 0-6.
Royce Zaunbrecher picked up the victory on the mound for the Pios after surrendering two runs on five hits and one walk. He struck out four in four innings of work.
Alex Holston was credited with the save, his fourth of the season, after allowing one run on two hits and one walk in the final three innings. He struck out three.
The Pios racked up seven hits on the night. Jacque Thibodeaux led the charge with two hits, including a double and an RBI. Dillan Gilbert followed with one hit and two RBI; Sam Veillon and Hogan Guidry each had one hit and one RBI; Brennan Corzine added a double and Gavin Bourgeois and Brad Stoma each had a single.
The Pios traveled to Baton Rouge Saturday to take on Class 4A’s No. 4-ranked St. Michael but results from that contest were not available at press time.
Notre Dame returns to action on Monday when they take on Crowley High in the second game of a doubleheader at Miller Stadium. Northside Christian will take on Elizabeth in a District 7-C showdown at 4 p.m. in the first game. The Pios and the Gents will square off shortly after the conclusion of that game.
IOTA – Mamou’s Ben Israel and Dylan Duplechain combined for a three-hit shutout in the Demons’ 8-0 victory over Iota Friday.
Iota fell to 10-12 overall and 2-4 in District 5-2A with the loss. Mamou improved to 11-11 and 5-1.
Israel earned the victory after giving up just two hits and one walk while striking out nine in six innings. Duplechain gave up one hit and struck out two in the final inning.
Iota’s Michael Reed, Michael Thevis and J.T. LeJeune each had one hit on the day.
Iota will entertain Ville Platte Tuesday at 4 p.m.
JENNINGS – The Crowley Ladies picked up a 16-2 victory over Jennings Friday to improve to 21-6 overall and 6-2 in District 4-3A play while Northside Christian’s Lady Warrior shut out Elizabeth, 10-0.
No further information was available on those games as of press time.
The CHS Ladies will be in action again on Monday when they play host to Notre Dame at 5 p.m. Northside will round out the regular season on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. road contest at Ascension Episcopal.
