Rudell Stutes Voorhies
CROWLEY – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Rudell Stutes Voorhies, 79, who died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Voorhies was a native and lifelong resident of Crowley. She retired from the Acadia Parish School Board after twenty-six years of service with twenty-two of those years as a special education aide. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requested visiting hours Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary was recited Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan V. Quibodeaux and her husband Raymond of Crowley, Gail V. Greenman and her husband John of Crowley; one son, Alvin Voorhies, Jr. of Crowley; four grandchildren, Aubrey Quibodeaux and his wife Brooke of Youngsville, Andrea Q. Trahan and her husband Brandon of Abbeville, Amy Greenman of Crowley and Angela Greenman of Westwego; three great-grandchildren, Sidney Quibodeaux, Bryce Trahan and Carson Quibodeaux; one step-great grandchild, Heath Vallot; her former husband, Alvin Voorhies, Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Voorhies was preceded in death by her parents, Sweeney Stutes, Sr. and Lucille Broussard Stutes; one sister, Merline S. Letz; two brothers, Sweeney Stutes, Jr. and Donald R. Stutes.
Pallbearers will be Aubrey Quibodeaux, Donnie Stutes, Byron Stutes, Larry Broussard, Coy Quibodeaux and Blane Faulk.
The family wishes to thank Drs. Stringfellow and Kilgore, the staff of Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the staff of Southern Care Hospice, Dr. Roden and the staff of Louisiana Oncology, Acadiana Home Health and all who cared for Mrs. Voorhies during her illness.
