Sacred Heart Track Teams compete at Indian Relays
By: LANCE REED
The SHHS track teams made the short trip to Elton recently to compete in the Indian Relays. Both the boys and the girls teams did fairly well and are showing a lot of promise for the upcoming parish and district meets.
Those meets will take place later in April. The Evangeline Parish Track Meet will consist of two different phases. The Junior High Track Meet will take place April 1, and the High School Track Meet will be Friday, April 4. Both events will be held at Basile High School. The District 6-2A Track Meet will take place in Port Barre April 17.
The boys placed in four different events. Cade McDaniel led the charge, placing first or second in three out of the four events. He was named the Outstanding Male Track Athlete at the meet with 26 total points. He placed first in the 400-meter run. He was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles and the 110-meter hurdles.
John McClelland helped the Sacred Heart boys’ cause with a third place finish in the javelin throw.
The Sacred Heart girls placed in three separate events. The 4-x-100-meter relay team of Madeline Broussard, Sarah Fontenot, Lindsay Schexnayder and Lyndi Vidrine took the runner-up spot in that event. The 4-x-400-meter relay team of Schexnayder, Allison Fuselier, Samantha Davenport and Lauren Parrott grabbed the second slot in that event.
Senior Lauren Parrott took second in the 400-meter race.
