Sapa team slates crappie tourney for Relay for Life
Sapa Extrusion’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life team will sponsor the sixth annual Crappie Tournament at Poverty Point Reservoir in Delhi, a lake becoming famous for its large crappie.
“This is our sixth year and we are anticipating a large turnout due to the size of the fish caught last year, and the number of the prizes given out,” Sapa Relay for Life team member Fred Eubanks said. “However the most important thing I want everyone to know is that every penny we raise during this tournament goes to the American Cancer Society.”
This year’s event will be held March 14 with a $30 per person entry fee.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place finishes along with the biggest fish caught.
There also will be a Kids Tournament Division for all types of fish such as catfish and bass caught by youth 11 and under fishing from 8 a.m. to noon at designated marina docks or the bank at the marina. Children must be accompany by an adult. Also many door prizes will be awarded at the end of the day.
The tournament begins at 6 a.m., with a 1 p.m. weigh-in. Lunch will be provided at 1 p.m. to all participants and may be purchased by spectators. Participants are asked to pre-register by March 13 for meal planning. However, late entries the morning of the tournament are welcome.
