Savoy Care Center News: Taking care of the residents

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Savoy Care Center Nursing Home in Mamou. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)

Our residents are the most important part of our job duties. Although we have schedules to stick to and loads of paperwork to complete, our residents are really our main priority. We strive daily to keep everyone healthy, happy and peaceful.

One of the services we offer is perhaps the biggest challenge of all in long-term care facilities today - don't pass a call light. This service empowers any and all facility employees to answer call lights. No staff member should pass up a call light without stopping to ask the resident what he/she needs, then finding the appropriate staff member to handle it. It is sometimes as simple as covering their feet with a blanket or picking up a dropped remote control.

The staff of Savoy Care Center would like to welcome new friends Ethelie Gahn, Tommy Vidrine and Catherine Avantis to the facility.

This week's activities included bingo, rosary, attending the French Retreat at the Family Life Center in Ville Platte, resident council meeting, ice cream party, mass, resident shopping, pokeno, Wii games, pool and resident birthday party.

VFW, Piggly Wiggly and the Marie Fruge family generously made donations to the facility this week.
