School Board employees to get bonus check

School Board employees will get a bonus check just in time for Christmas.

Phillip Sellers, the school board’s chief financial officer, informed the School Board members Thursday that each school board employee will get a 1.5 percent bonus check thanks to extra oil and gas revenues.

For every $10,000 a school board employee makes a year, the employee will receive a bonus of $150.

Teachers earning $30,000 a year will receive a bonus of $450. Those earning $50,000 a year will get an extra check for $750.

Sellers said the separate check will arrive in the mail on Dec. 19.

It is the second time in six months school board employees have received a bonus check. In June, they received around a one percent bonus check.

School Board members will not, however, receive the bonus.

In other school board business, the School Board elected a new president. Chris Mayard, from Erath, is the new board president.

He replaces Ricky LeBouef, who has been the president for the last two years.

Angela Faulk, who was vice president, was nominated to be president but she turned it down.

“I appreciate the nomination, but the president has to be quiet and neutral, and I will never do that,” Faulk said.

She accepted the nomination for vice president.

The School Board got good news from a financial audit for the 2008 fiscal year, ending in June 30.

Robert Carter, a certified public accountant with Robert Carter of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co,, told the board that he did not find any problems.

The School Board received $88 million in revenue, or about $7 million more than 2007 because of the increase in oil and gas revenue.
