School board holds meeting to discuss dress code
The Tangipahoa Discipline/Dress Committee consisting of teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, and School Board members met to discuss issues concerning current uniform policy and possible changes to it.
"We brought forth recommendations for clarification to the current dress code," said Mildred Johnson, Assistant Principal of Hammond High School and member of the Parish Discipline/Dress Code Committee.
Currently, the parish policy states that for grades 4 - 5 - 6 students can wear pants or knee length or "below the knee" shorts.
The Committee approved the change to the current uniform policy for students in grades 4 - 5 - 6 can wear knee length shorts or full length pants.
Other clarifications to the current Dress Code were that all clothing be worn as designed, no capri shorts, and no jewelry that makes noise and interrups instruction.
Regulations for shoes include a closed in toe and closed in heel with the new addition stating that slippers are not allowed.
Only black, blue, or brown belts will be allowed, and cloth, glitter, or multi-colored will not be allowed.
At their meeting Tuesday, the School Board approved these changes which will take effect next school year.
