CROWLEY – At Monday evening’s meeting of the Acadia Parish School Board, the board recognized the Church Point Middle football team for their third straight league championship win.

“I’d like you to know that we are doing well academically, and athletically,” said Church Point Middle School Principal Paul De Rousselle, addressing the board.

The board approved the lease of six dishwashers for schools in the parish whose cafeteria dishwashers have broken down. These schools include Evangeline, Martin Petitjean, Egan Elementary, South Rayne Elementary, and Iota Elementary.

Ruth Miller, supervisor of the Child Nutrition Department, told the board that leasing dishwashers would be cheaper than buying new ones, not only in the cost of the machines themselves but also in maintenance costs. According to Miller, who did not say what size machines would be leased, the smallest of the machines would cost about $80 per month, and the next largest size would cost about $120 per month. Maintenance costs are included in this, and according to Acadia Parish School Board President Roland Boudreaux, maintenance of the old machines was costing the board $500 to $600 annually.

The board approved the laying of 35 ft. of 12-inch irrigation pipeline on a plot of leased land east of Evangeline, along Hwy 100. The application for matching funds for this project has been approved, making the total cost to the board $24,490. Two hundred and eighty-two acres are in this section.

The board heard an update about another project on leased land south of Eunice. Assuming the application for matching funds is accepted, the building of an irrigation well, and the laying down 15-, 12- and 10 -inch irrigation pipes, would cost the board $55,000.

The board receives a total of $150,000 in income from leased land.

The next Acadia Parish School Board meeting will take place on December 8.
