School Board renews Nassif's contract
The St. Landry Parish School Board renewed Supt. Michael Nassif's contract for one year at its Thursday meeting. The vote was 9-4.
Nassif's current two-year contract expires on Juy 31. It requires the board by March 1 to advise him if it intends to renew or not. Without that, the contract renews automatically for one year.
Board members heard for several persons in the audience, some advocating Nassif's retention and some not.
At one point during its discussion, the board took a brief recess to be sure all parties knew what was being voted on and evidently to allow members to lobby one way or the other.
Board President John Miller of District 3 seemed to think the renewal was a two-year pact. Board attorney Gerard Caswell walked him through the clauses that showed that not to be the case.
Eunice-area board members Roger Young and Harry Fruge voted for the renewal; Eunice-area member Josie Frank voted no.
Others voting yes were Kyle Boss, Huey Wyble, Elinor Eaglin, Dillard Deville, Sonny Budden, Ronald Carriere and SCott Richard.
Others voting no were Anthony Standberry, Quincy Richard and Miller.
