Services set for L. Clark Gray, Sr.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church for L. Clark Gray, Sr., 83, who died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 in Crowley, LA.

Rev. Jimmy Broussard will conduct the funeral services. The burial will be in the Woodlawn Mausoleum. Visitation may be observed from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until service time.

Clark was born to James and Lacie Lou Clark Gray on June 8, 1925 in Acadia Parish. He was a lifelong resident of the Egan Community. At the age of 52, Clark retired from a successful career of farming to pursue his travels with his second wife, Gloria Bartell Gray. Until the time of his death, he remained an active member of the board of directors for SLEMCO, the rural electric company, which his father James co-founded. He served on the SLEMCO board of directors for 46 years, 27 of which he served as board secretary and on the board of directors for the Louisiana Rural Electric Corporation, serving as secretary for that board as well. Clark was a 46 year board member of the 4th Ward Drainage board as well as a 26 year member of the Acadia Parish Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Habibi Shrine Temple in Lake Charles; a life long member of the First Christian Church of Crowley; a member of the Crusin’ Cajun traveling group; and a dedicated member of two local men’s coffee groups.

Clark is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gloria Bartell Gray; his sister, Nellie Gray Lee; his children, Cathy Louise Gray Richard and her husband, Allen; Clark Gray Jr. and his wife, Priscilla; and Earl Powell Gray and his wife, Jeri; his two step-children, Claudia Lyons Foster and her husband, Don; and Harold Jeffery Lyons; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Thelma Jeffers Gray; his daughter, Donita Lane Gray Burton and his brother, James Russell Gray.

Pallbearers include his grandsons and grandson-in-law: Frank Allen Richard, Jeremy Miles Burton, Nicholas Earl Gray, Donald Dunman Foster,II, Adam Anthony Dupre’, and John Wayne (Bo) Gibson, Jr. Honorary pall bearers include SLEMCO Board of Directors: Dave L. Aymond, Dennis J. Broussard, Leopold Frilot, Sr., William R. Huval, Dewey Ledoux, Jr., Remie McGee, Jerry Meaux, David Simon, Jr., and Howard Young Jr.; Board Attorney, Jimmy J. Davidson, III and SLEMCO CEO, J.U. Gajun, II.
