Sewer system ordinance amended
The City Council at a special meeting Tuesday amended City Code to allow extending the sewer system to the boundary of newly annexed commercial property after conducting a cost benefit analysis that determines a timely recovery of the expense.
The action allows it to live up to agreements previously reached with two establishments but jeopardized by a misinterpretation of the city ordinance.
Immediately following the code amendment the council approved resolutions extending service to Eunice Superette on West Maple and Holiday Inn on West Laurel.
Cost benefit study indicates both projects will benefit the city beyond recovery of the extensions' expense.
In the case of the motel, extension of a line to its boundary may not be necessary as consulting engineer Andre Aucoin said a better alternative for the city would be for the business to connect to the existing line.
The contract that includes the Superette extension is already under way, with the first phase being laying of line along LSUE Dr.
The ordinance amendment is retroactive to May 1, 2007, which pre-dates both annexations.
