Sheriff’s Office targets drug trade

ACADIA PARISH - Armed with 17 warrants on 13 defendants, agents with the Acadia Parish Narcotic Strike Force assisted by members of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole began arresting defendants from the Crowley and Rayne area around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, charges range from distribution of crack cocaine, Roxicodone, marijuana and PCP. Bonds range from $5,000 to $20,000.

Melancon said that four defendants were arrested during the operation and he is asking for the public’s help in locating the remaining nine who are identified as:

• Willie Batiste, 22, of Rayne who was wanted for distribution of Roxicodone and distribution of marijuana.

• David Cook, 33, of Rayne who was wanted for distribution of crack cocaine.

• Charlie Evans Jr., 32, of Rayne who was wanted for distribution of Roxicodone.

• Jimmie Lewis, 52, of Rayne who was wanted for distribution of marijuana and distribution of crack cocaine.

• Reginald Clark, 32, of Rayne who was wanted for distribution of crack cocaine.

• Donovan Robinson, 29, of Crowley who waswanted for distribution of PCP and distribution of Roxicodone.

• Ronald J. Pomier, 27, of Crowley wanted for distribution of Roxicodone.

• Larry Martin, 56, whose last known address was in Egan wanted for distribution of Hydrocodone.

• Buck A. Caswell, 41, whose last known address was in Evangeline wanted for distribution of Roxicodone.

Sheriff Melancon is asking anyone knowing the whereabouts of these individuals is asked to contact the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 788-8700.

Arrested were:

• Darren D. Roberts, 43, 500 block of N Chevis Street, Rayne. Mr. Roberts was arrested for distribution of Roxicodone and distribution of marijuana. His bond was set at $10,000.

• Jerome K. Sonnier, 25, 200 block of Westwood, Crowley. Mr. Sonnier was arrested for distribution of crack cocaine (two counts). His bond was set at $20,000.

• Johnava J. Bellard, 29, Acadia Parish Jail, Crowley. Mr. Bellard was arrested for distribution of marijuana.

• Gerald Curley, 54, Kathy Apartments, Crowley. Mr. Curley was arrested for distribution of crack cocaine. Bond was set at $10,000.
