Sheriff's office investigating 'suspicious death'

ACADIA PARISH – The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to what they are now ruling as a "suspicious death" in the 100 block of Victor Lane.

The victim is a 20-year-old female who was last seen alive at about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The victim's mother found her and the sheriff's office responded to the 9-1-1 call just before noon.

The sheriff's ofice explaines that initial reports of a shooting have now been turned to "suspicious death" and the case has not been ruled homicide as of this time.

Authorities also explain that two schools in the parish, Branch Elementary and Rayne High, were put on lockdown earlier today to allow authorities to alert relatives of the victim at the schools.

More on this as it becomes available.
