Sheriff's Office tax renewal passes in Richland
A half-cent sales tax renewal for the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office had little trouble passing Saturday.
Voters passed the tax renewal by a 87 percent margin with 766 votes in favor or the renewal and only 113 votes against it.
“We want to thank everyone who came out to support us and help renew this millage,” Richland Parish Sheriff Charles McDonald said. “We promise to do our best to uphold people’s trust in us by continuing to provide good law enforcement.”
The tax was originally passed in 1989 and is renewed every 10 years. The half-cent sales and use tax is expected to bring in approximately $1,080,000 a year to be used for the purpose of providing funding for the operations of the sheriff’s office.
“We’re proud that it passed and we will do our best to use the money wisely,” he said.
