Sherman Charles Spencer
CROWLEY – Funeral services for Sherman Charles Spencer, 63, who passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California, will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 1 p.m. at
Northside Assembly of God Cathedral on Northern Ave.
Reverend James W. Proctor will officiate.
Sherman was a native of Crowley and a resident of Long Beach, California. He was the oldest child and only son born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Miller (Leola) Spencer. Sherman served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and returned home to work for the postal service before relocating to Long Beach in 1983. While living in Long Beach, Sherman drove city buses for the Long Beach Transit System for approximately twelve years.
Sherman will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his significant other, Bessie Williams of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Spencer-Morgan (Martin) of Crowley and Marjorie Vann (Calvert) of Milwaukee, Wis.; one step-son, Freddie Thompson of Long Beach, Calif.; three nephews, Jonathan Spencer (Brianna Denning) of Greenwood Village, Colo., Jace Washington of Slidell, and Jamar Vann of Milwaukee, Wis.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller (Leola) Spencer; his wife, Annie Lee Jackson Spencer; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert (Marie Pitre) Tyler, Sr.; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose (Ella Harmon) Spencer.
