When an athlete begins track season, your ultimate goal is participating in the State Track Meet.
Rayne High’s Annie Simoneaux met her goal, and also doubled it.
Simoneaux captured the 2009 state 3A championship not only in the javelin (142-10), her specialty, but topped all competitors in the discus as well, with a spin of 118-8.
Annie comes off a superior junior campaign, following a visit to the state meet on both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Her throw at the state meet of 142-10, her best by a foot, was 11th best in the nation for the 2008-2009 season.
“I was so excited when I won,” notes Annie when describing her wins. “I had a few rough spots this year, but my throws kept getting better as the season went. I just peaked at the right time for state.”
The incoming Rayne High senior was presented her championship ring Tuesday morning as she broke away from summer volleyball practice, her second sport as a Lady Wolf.
Annie was also named during selections of the All-Parish and All-Acadiana Teams for her junior year.
“Now I’m busy with volleyball,” continued Simoneaux. “There’s a lot of running and that keeps me in shape for the year. I’m looking forward for an awesome senior year in both sports.”
Annie is the daughter of Peter and Daphne Simoneaux.
