Sisters to celebrate jubilee of vowed life

Three sisters of Mount Carmel will be honored in celebration of the anniversaries of their religious professions at a liturgy and reception at Mount Carmel Academy Assembly Center on August 15, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Father Pat Williams will preside.

Honored are Sisters Levie Gautreaux, O. Carm. (75th), Rose Aimee Breaux, O. Carm. (70th) and Valerie Gros, O. Carm. (50th). One other

sister will be honored: Sister Camille Anne Campbell, O. Carm. (50th).

Sister Levie Gautreaux, formerly Sister Raphael, celebrates 75 years of religious life. Sister Levie, born in Rayne, LA, is the fourth daughter of the late Leonce Ernest Gautreaux and Marie Hebert. She was educated by the Sisters of Mount Carmel in Rayne and graduated in 1931 from Rayne High School. Sister graduated from Mount Carmel Normal in 1932 and earned a B.S. and a masters’ degree in Education from Loyola University, New Orleans. She professed vows in 1934 at the Mount Carmel Motherhouse. Sister Levie later transferred to hospital work and became certified in Medical Records at St. Joseph Hospital, Thibodaux. She eventually enrolled in an A.D. Nursing Program at Nicholls State University. She worked as an R.N. at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Hotel Dieu Home Care until retirement, she also spent years at Metairie Cenacle in the Prayer Support Office. Sister Levie currently resides at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center, New Orleans, LA.

Sister Rose Aimee Breaux, O. Carm., formerly Sister Mary Thomas, celebrates 70 years of religious life. Sister, a native of Broussard, LA, is the sixth of nine children born to the late Ovey Paul Breaux and Marie Billeaud. She holds a BS in Education from Loyola University, New Orleans, LA and entered into religious life in 1936. Devoting over 50 years to education, beginning in 1939, she taught at Mount Carmel schools in Lafayette, New Iberia and Thibodaux, LA and at St. James Major in New Orleans, LA, and St. Joseph in Rayne, LA. She served as teacher and principal at St. Joseph the Worker in Marrero, LA, St. Dominic in New Orleans, LA, St. Joseph Ames and Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego, LA. Sister Rose Aimee served in Queen of Peace Parish in Lafayette, LA where she visited with the elderly and shut-ins. In 1988 she was awarded for Outstanding Achievement in Lafayette Parish Olde Worker Force. From 1994-2000 she served in a ministry of Presence in Rayne, LA. Sister Rose Aimee currently resides at St. Leo-Seton Convent in Lafayette.

Sister Valerie Gros, O. Carm. celebrates 50 years of religious life. Sister, born Arline Marie in Thibodaux, LA, is the first of eight children born to the late Percy John Gros and Eula Mae Chiasson. Sister Valerie entered into religious life in 1956. She attended Mount Carmel Elementary and graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Thibodaux, LA. She received her masters in Education from San Carlos University, Cebu City, Philippines. Sister Valerie has taught at schools in Abbeville, New Orleans and Rayne, LA as well as Granada Hills, CA, Dumaguete City and Cauayan City, Philippines. For over 20 years Sister has been an Itinerant Minister through the Well Community, New Orleans.
