Six beauties to vie for queen

The 2008 International Rice Festival Queen’s Contestants have been announced. The pageant will be held on Saturday, October 18 at 10 a.m. on the main platform of the festival.

Devin Angelle Babineaux, daughter of Stacey Rasberry, is representing the Evangeline Oil and Gas Festival. She is currently attending Louisiana State University at Eunice. Devin’s favorite subjects are English and Biology. She was a three year member of Beta, an honors graduate and varsity cheerleader. Devin’s hobbies include skeet shooting, fishing, hunting, frogging and 4-wheeler riding.

Katherine Claire Miller, daughter of Georgette Miller and Gregory Miller, is representing the City of Crowley, sponsored by the Crowley Professional Women’s Club. She is a student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette majoring in accounting. Katherine is an intern for Dugas, Soileau and Breaux, LLC. Her favorite subjects are Accounting and Math. Her hobbies include swimming, mud-riding, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.

Ariel Michelle Mire, daughter of Pebbles and Corwin Mire, is representing Festival Ra*La*Ne. She is a student at South Louisiana Community College. Ariel plans to complete her studies at SLCC and then transfer to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in psychology and business. Her favorite subject is psychology. Ariel’s hobbies include skydiving, wake-boarding, reading books about personality types and psychology, shoe collecting and cooking.

Julia Ann Maynard, daughter of Karen and Larry Maynard, is representing the Gueydan Duck Festival. She is a student at Louisiana State University at Eunice and a caterer’s assistant. Julia’s favorite subjects are English and acting. Her future plans are to graduate with a major in performing arts, get a teaching degree and return to Notre Dame High School to teach performing arts. Julia’s hobbies include acting, dancing, competing in pageants and baking.

Desiray Seaux, daughter of Delores and Casey Cryer Donald and Anne Seaux, is representing the Crowley Kiwanis Club. She is a student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in early childhood education. Desiray’s favorite subjects are English, history, math and geology. Her future plans are to complete her education degree and teach for two years and then obtain her PhD in English. Desiray’s hobbies include reading, shopping, photography and traveling.

Hope Lee Mestayer (photo unavailable), daughter of Tab and Kim Mestayer, is representing the city of Lake Charles. She is a student at Stage One School of Cosmetology. Hope’s favorite subjects are cosmetology, building confidence in young women and creating a family support group from fibromyalgia. Her future plans are to graduate from cosmetology school and open a large spa that will correspond with a formal dress and bridal shop. Hope’s hobbies include learning to pack for a hurricane, making all her friends look glamorous and playing UNO.
