Six locals named to Class 2A LSCA All-State
By: LANCE REED
Making any All-State team is quite an achievement. However, many people don’t realize there are two. There is the Sports Writers All-State team and the Coaches All-State. The Louisiana Softball Coaches Association selects players from their respective classes based on seeing these players on their field and not just on the stats they put out.
Six softball players from Evangeline Parish were selected by coaches from Class 2A.
Of the six players, four came from the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers. Seniors Chelsey Fontenot (pitcher), Kayla Johnson (catcher) and Alex Deville (shortstop) were all named for their performances throughout the season. Ashley Marcantel, a sophomore, was the only under-classman from PPHS.
Sacred Heart sophomore Samantha Davenport played several positions for the Lady Trojans. She was selected to the LSCA team as an infielder.
Mamou Katie Landreneau was named to the team as an outfielder. The sophomore had a standout year for the Lady Demons. She was vital to Mamou making it to the regional round of the playoffs.
Congratulations go out to all six softball players who were recognized by the Class 2A coaches of the LSCA.
