Small trash fire turns into definite threat

A small trash fire set on the afternoon of Saturday, February 21 quickly expanded into a flaming field of broom straw with a huge investment standing bravely in the background. The Zachary and Chaneyville Fire Departments were alerted to a call to attack a blazing grass fire. Before the arrival of the fire departments acres of grass rapidly burned and ignited its way across a pasure inching closer to the home and hay barn of Tommy and Brenda "Bozeman" Caldwell on Plank Road in Zachary.

With knowledge, experience and quick response of both departments the barn and home were kept from harm. It was speculated that the high winds that afternoon were to blame for the small fire becoming that size. Approximately 30 round bales of hay were destroyed.

Shortly after the Plank road fire was maintained, Chaneyville was called out again for yet another grass fire on Joor road. Apparently a bale of hay fell from a truck and mysteriously caught fire on the side of the road causing traffic problems. Chaneyville was quickly able to maintain and extinguish the fire on the side of the road before it could spread any further or cause any more damage.

No one was injured in either fire.
