Sondra Bourque Hanks
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. for Sondra Bourque Hanks, 68, who died Saturday, December 19, 2009, at her residence in Orange Beach, AL.
Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2, Rayne.
Surviving are husband, Patrick Hanks, Sr. of Orange Beach, AL; four daughters, Rosalind Hanks Carroll of Annapolis, MD, Michelle LeMaire of Lafayette, LA, Jennifer Hanks Faulk and husband,Kenneth, of Foley, AL, Andrea Hanks Hodo and husband, Steven, of Orange Beach, AL; one son, Patrick Hanks, Jr. of Washington, DC; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Anne Marie, Benjamin, Katherine, Trenton, Jakob, Cydney, Lainey; six cousins, Ethel Tweedel of Lewisburg, Rena Guiterrez of Lakeland, FL, John Tweedel of Crowley, Gervin Tweedel of Lafayette, Jane Tweedel, OK, and Kaye Burleigh of Livingston.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cherise Hanks; and parents, Leonard Bourque and Lilly Soonier Bourque.
She was born Saturday, March 8, 1941, in Welch, the daughter of the late Leonard Bourque and the late Lilly Sonnier Bourque.
She was married to Patrick Hanks for 48 years.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxilary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was an active member of social services for St. Thomas by the Sea Catholic Church in Orange Beach, AL.
She had a passion for caring for her grandchildren.
She was an active volunteer for an environmental group where she kept a vigilant watch over small sea turtle nests and assisted hatchlings make their way to the sea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital.
A rosary was recited Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Gossen Funeral Home.
Friends were received Tuesday, December 22, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 24, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. until service at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne.
