The No. 9-ranked Lady Wolves basketball team completed their district slate Friday without a blemish (12-0) taking a 60-36 win over Crowley High.
Rayne will take their power ranking and 4-4A district title into the state playoffs Thursday evening (Feb. 20) when they will host Franklin Parish during a 6:30 p.m. bi-district contest at the RHS north gym.
“We met one of our goals by winning district,” stated Rayne Coach Chester Randal as he prepares his team for post-season. “If we keep our focus and play to our ability, I think we have a shot at this.”
The Lady Wolves hope to improve their state showing last season when they fell to Abbeville in the quarterfinals.
The No. 24-ranked Franklin Parish Patriots of Winnsboro enter the playoffs from District 2-4A with a 5-3 record.
In their commanding 60-36 Crowley win Friday, the Lady Wolves were led in the scoring column by their lone senior, Tori Carriere, who dumped in 20 points and added an assist and steal.
Teammate Charlesha Dugas donated 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a block, while Cierra Harmon punched in 10 points of her own.
Whitley Larry had 6 points, Tajane Butler finished with 4, and Tristan Mouton with a trey.
The Wolves also collected a district win Friday over Crowley, their contest holding a little closer at 62-57.
The contest began with a close 31-27 halftime Rayne lead, with the Wolves’ defense holding strong for the win.
Leading the Rayne scoreboard were Charles Jones (20), Byron Mouton (14), Trevon Fontenot (12) and Peyton Larry (9).
The Wolves will close out their district slate Friday when they host Opelousas.
