A number of local athletes have qualified for this weekend’s State Track Meet slated on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.
During Wednesday’s Region II Class 3A Track and Field Championships held at Abbeville High, Notre Dame’s Erin Trahan and Aline Gossen combined to set new school records in the distance races.
Trahan started rewriting the record books in the 1600-meter run when the sophomore knocked over eight seconds off her previous best time and ran a 5:34.08 to win the event.
Gossen was just as impressive in the 3200-meter run, shredding 13 seconds off her time from the previous week to place second with a time of 12:15.26 which is also a new school record.
On the boys’ side, ND’s Hunter Stelly was the lone qualifier for the Pios. He won the javelin with a throw of 200-6 and earned an alternate slot with a fourth-place heave of 48-10 3/4 in the shot put.
At Thursday’s Region II Class 4A Track and Field Championships held Thursday at Northside High in Lafayette, two Lady Wolves qualified for Saturday’s 4-A State Meet.
Rayne High will be represented at the state meet by Tristan Mouton and Taylor Arceneaux
In her senior campaign, Arceneaux qualified for the state meet by placing second in the discus with a throw of 102-9 throw at regionals.
Mouton, a junior hurdler, qualified in both hurdle events by placing second in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.17) and 300-meter hurdles (47.57).
Also adding points during the regional meet were Imari Jackson (6th place in pole vault 8-0) and Desmond Cole (6th in shot put 43-7.5).
