Wolves, Ladies collect district wins

RAYNE - The Lady Wolves improved their district record to 5-0 Friday evening with a 49-33 win over Eunice High School.
With a slow start, the Lady Wolves took a 26-12 halftime lead over the Lady Bodcats, and stretched their lead in second half behind a strong full-court press and fast breaks for the win.
Leading Rayne High stats was Charlesha Dugas with 21 points, two rebounds, three assists and eight steals.
Completing Rayne stats were Tori Carriere with nine, Tristan Mouton at seven, Cierra Harmon with five, Tanner Wilson at four, and Whitley Larry with a trey.
The win places the Lady Wolves atop District 4-4A with a 5-0 record and increases their state power ranking to #14 as of this week.
Rayne was scheduled to meet Crowley High and Beau Chene this week when they hope to improve their district slate.
The Rayne boys notched their first district win over Eunice Friday with a 49-33 score.
Leading Rayne High stats was Trevon Fontenot with 14 points, followed by Byron Mouton 9, Drakkar broussard 7, Peyton Larry and Charles Jones each with 6, and Jaquan Cormier with 4.
In earlier action, the Wolves slipped by Teurlings Catholic, 53-51.
In the Tuesday evening barn-burner, the Wolves held off a late-game attack by the Rebels to close out the two-point win.
Charles Jones and Drakkar Broussard led Rayne scores with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Adding to the Rayne win were Byron Mouton with 9, Donracus Joseph 6, Desmond Cole 4, and a bucket added by Jaquan Cormier, Trevon Fontenot, Dylan Bergeron and Peyton Larry.
The Wolves were slated to meet Crowley High and Beau Chene this week for additional district play.
