Wolves undefeated at Vermilion Catholic baseball tournament
The Rayne High Wolves were undefeated over the weekend during the Vermilion Catholic Baseball Tournament held in Abbeville.

ABBEVILLE - The Rayne High baseball team got off to a good start for the 2014 season with a 3-0 record over the weekend at the Vermilion Catholic Tournament.
They opened action Friday evening with a 7-6 win over Kaplan High behind a solid pitching performance by Rayne hurlers Hunter Keely and Kameron Falcon. Keely faned six Kaplan batter in four innings, while Falcon finished up the last three innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
Leading at the plate for the win against the PIrates were Keely and TJ Bearb each 2-for-4 with Bearb tagging home twice. Grant Menard was 2-3, while teammates Delahoussaye, Abshire, LeJeune and Dore each collected hits.
In their 8-2 win over Highland Baptist, Falcon collected the win on the mound for the Wolves early on Saturday. Ivy Thibodeaux led at the plate going 2-for-3 and 2 runs. He was joined by Keely, Quebodeaux and Dore with hits for the win.
In their third and final win later Saturday, the Wolves posted a hugh 16-3 win over the hosting Vermilion Catholic squad.
Delahoussaye and LeJeune shared pitching duties for the Wolves through the first six innings of play, each chipping in three innings, apiece. Falcon finished up the game in the last inning of play.
Of the 15 runs scored on 16 hits, the Wolves were led at the plate by both Grants, Menard (3-for-4) and Abshire (3-for-5). Also helping add to the scoring bananza were Keely (2-5), Delahoussaye (1-2), TJ Bearb (1-2), Lejeune 1-4), Blase Meche (1-1), Quebodeaux (2-5) and Brice Meche (2-4).
The Wolves are slated to participate in the Hanson Memoial Tournament this weekend. They will meet Delcambre High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Acadian Park in New Iberia. With Friday clear, the Wolves will travel to Hanson High in Franklin for two games on Saturday. They meet Patterson High at 1 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. contest against state powerhouse Central Catholic of Morgan City.
