Boone helps lead Iota to Bulldog Relays title
IOTA – Jillian Boone won a pair of individual titles, but her best effort may have been her anchor leg on the Iota Lady Bulldogs second-place 4x400 relay (4:33.39) that allowed Iota to slip away with the team title at the Iota Bulldogs’ Relays Friday evening.
The Lady Dogs scored a total of 97 points to nip second-place Eunice by one point. Eunice won the 4x400, forcing Iota to finish no worse than second to claim the title.
Oakdale scored 84 points to finish third in the team standings while Rayne was fifth with 68.75 points.
Boone, who teamed with Billie Toups, Alexis St. Andre and Cambre St. Andre in the 4x400, won the 800-meter run (2:40.62) and the 1600 (5:57.91) to account for 22.5 points.
Alexis St. Andre added a winning time of 1:05.48 in the 400-meter dash and Cambri St. Andre was third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.92).
In the other relays, Madison Meche, Kate Lege, Whitney Landry and Toups placed second in the 4x100 with a time of 53.13 while the team of Meche, Lege, Toups and Alexis St. Andre placed third in the 4x200 (1:53.51).
In the field, Meche logged the only victory for the Lady Dogs with a winning toss of 118-11 in the javelin.
Earning third-place honors were Madison Smith in the discus (85-10), Cambri St. Andre in the triple jump (31-8), Alexis St. Andre in the high jump (4-10) and Sarah Duhon in the pole vault (5-5).
Rayne was paced by a 34-point performance from Tristan Mouton.
Mouton won the both hurdle events with times of 16.77 in the 100-meter hurdles and 48.46 in the 300-hurdles. She also placed second in the 100-meter dash (13.05) and third in the long jump (15-10 1/2).
Taylor Arceneaux won the discus (100-4) and Imari Jackson took top honors in the pole vault (8-6) while Charlesha Dugas was second in the 200-meter dash (27.87).
On the boys’ side, Eunice and Jennings each scored 103 points to tie for the team title. Oakdale posted 73 points to finish third while Iota was seventh (36) and Rayne rounded out the 10-team field with 18 points.
Iota got a trio of second-place finishes from Dakota St. Andre in the 400-meter dash (52.75), Jarrette Fontenot in the shot put (46-3) and Bryce Leger in the discus (120-4). Fontenot also finished third in the discus (118-4) while Adam Ardoin was third in the shot put (44-5).
Rayne’s top finisher was Jacoby White, who won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:11.58.
