Church Point upends Iota
IOTA – Church Point’s Alex Citizen and Jaylan Kelly put on a 3-point shooting display in the first half to help lead the Bears to a 51-45 road victory over the Iota Bulldogs Friday evening.
The Bears improved to 7-8 on the season with the victory while the Bulldogs fell to 8-10.
Citizen and Kelly each hit four long balls on the night and combined for 23 first half points.
Kelly canned a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Bears take a slim 17-15 advantage.
Citizen then connected on four shots from beyond the arch in the second quarter to spark a 21-11 run that gave the Bears a 38-26 advantage at the break.
Iota fired back in the third quarter with a run of their own.
The Dogs reeled off nine points and held the Bears to just one basket in the frame to cut the lead to 40-35.
Iota got within two twice, the second time on a Steven Cooper bucket in the paint, but Kelly answered with another 3-pointer to give the Bears a 46-41 lead with 2:41 remaining.
Iota’s Luke Reed answered with a pair of free throws to get the Dogs back within three (46-43) but another basket in the lane by Citizen and a free throw by Kelly followed and Troy Matte added a put-back with a few seconds remaining to ice the game.
Citizen and Kelly paced the Bears with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Tyler Wheeler, Kendrick Boast and Troy Matte each added four points while Devante Wheeler, Deion Monroe, Charles Richard and Acason Wiley each scored two.
Curtis Antoine led the Dogs with 15 points. Cooper followed with 12 points and Reed had 10.
Also contributing in the loss were Zack Hebert with five points, Garrett Reppond with two and Kade Hebert with one.
