Jamboree action signals start of prep baseball, softball seasons
CROWLEY – Opening day is less than a week away, but fans can get a glimpse of what the 2014 prep baseball and softball seasons have in store this weekend when teams across the state participate in their annual jamborees.
Rayne will play host to its annual jamboree beginning Friday with jayvee action kicking off at 4 p.m.
The host Wolves will take on Welsh at 4 p.m. and Welsh will take on Crowley High at 5:15. Those games will be followed by a contest between the Gents and Church Point at 6:30 and Church Point and Rayne at 7:45.
On Saturday, the varsity squads take the field beginning at 10 a.m. with Rayne taking on Welsh. Crowley and Welsh will play at 11:30 and the Gents will close out their afternoon with a 1 p.m. contest against Church Point. Rayne and Church Point will then play in the finale at 2:30.
All games will be three innings or an hour and 15 minutes.
Admission for the jamboree will be $5 for adults and $2 for students.
The Notre Dame Pioneers and Lady Pios will kick off their seasons Saturday in the Teurlings Jamboree in Lafayette.
The Pios will take on Westminster at 12:45 p.m. and Teurlings at 3:15 in varsity action.
Notre Dame’s jayvee squad, which will take on Mamou Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Edmund, will also participate in the Teurlings Jamboree Saturday. They will play Westminster at 11:30 a.m. and Teurlings at 2 p.m.
The Lady Pios will be in action at Teurlings for a pair of varsity contests. They will take on Catholic of Morgan City at 11:30 a.m. and Berwick at 12:45 p.m.
The Iota Bulldogs will play a pair of games on Saturday in the annual Perry Pitre Ford Jamboree hosted by Eunice High School.
The Bulldogs will take on Ascension Episcopal at 12:20 and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 2:40.
Acadiana Softball Jamboree
Both Crowley High and Iota will participate in the Acadiana High Softball Jamboree on Saturday.
The CHS Ladies will kick off of the action at 8 a.m. against Acadiana before turning around to take on Comeaux at 10:20.
The Lady Bulldogs will play back-to-back games. They will take on Carencro at 3 p.m. and Erath at 4:10.
