Lady Pios win Acadiana Golf League Tournament
The Notre Dame Lady Pios’ golf team recently won the 2014 Acadiana High School Golf League tournament at Squirrel Run. Members of the team include, from left, Emily Lucas, Cassidy Goff, Emma Lavergne and coach Shane Goff.
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios recently wrapped up play in the Acadiana High School Golf League by winning the league tournament at Squirrel Run in New Iberia.
The Lady Pios carded a round of 182 to win the tournament title by 18 strokes over runnerup Catholic of New Iberia. Teurlings finished third with a round of 237 while Westgate was fourth (296)
Notre Dame’s Cassidy Goff fired an 89 for the second-lowest round of the day behind Teurlings’ Hillary Washington, who shot an 84.
Emma Lavergne shot a 93 for the Lady Pios while Emily Lucas finished with a 110.
The Pios also had a strong showing in the boys’ division, finishing second in the 12-team field after carding a 337.
St. Thomas More won the team title with a round of 322 and Catholic High of New Iberia was third (339).
Catholic’s Micah Goulas won the over medalist award by shooting a 2-under par 70.
Notre Dame was led by Grant Broussard and Tristan Fruge with rounds of 82 and 83, respectively.
Joe Stringfellow and Thomas Welter each carded rounds of 86 while Trey Miller finished with a round of 99.
Fruge was also named to the league’s All-Acadiana team.
St. Thomas More’s Drew Gonzales was the All-Acadiana medalist after firing a 5-under-par through six rounds of golf at various courses throughout Acadiana.
Both the Pios and Lady Pios will be in action again next week when they travel to Alexandria to compete in the Division III regional Tourament on May 1. The Pios will be competing at Links on the Bayou while the Lady Pios will play at Alexandria Country Club.
