Midland fares well at state track meet
BATON ROUGE – Devon Gautreaux scored 15.5 points in three events Thursday to help lead the Midland Rebels to a sixth-place finish at the Class B Track and Field Championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Gautreaux cleared 6-0 in the high jump and claimed a state title on less misses and then teamed with Randy Primeaux, Jake Gautreaux and Darren Arceneaux to get on the podium with a third-place finish in the 4 x 400 relay (3:42.22). He also placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:09.42).
Arceneaux made another trip to the awards stand after placing second in the 400-meter dash (52.22) while Floyd Baker was third in the javelin (148-8) and Taatum Rubin was third in the discus (106-11). Rubin also placed fifth in the shot put (37-1).
Nick Primeaux rounded out the Rebels’ scoring with a fifth-place showing in the 300-hurdles (45.86).
Simsboro won the boys’ division with 64 1/2 points while Centerville was second (61) and Bell City was third (52).
In the girls’ division, Midland placed 10th in the team standings with 24 points. Weston won the meet with 70 points. ESA followed with 62 points while Bell City and Simsboro tied for third with 53 points each.
The Lady Rebels did most of their scoring in the relay events by placing third in each race.
Kristen Breaux, Brooke Comeaux, Bethany LeJeune and Lexi Newman teamed to run a 53.19 in the 4 x 100 while Jade Boudreaux, Newman, LeJeune and Breaux ran a 1:52.29 in the 4 x 200. Breaux, LeJeune, Hannah Credeur and Jade Boudreaux clocked a 4:31.70 in the 4x400.
Breaux also scored a third-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:03.02.
