Prep Roundup: Gents' Broussard shuts out LaGrange

CROWLEY – Crowley High pitcher Ben Broussard is healthy again and that was sickening news for the LaGrange Gators Tuesday.
A rash of injuries have limited Broussard’s time on the mound this season for the Gents, but as his performance against the Gators indicated, the hard-throwing junior is well and back in a groove.
Broussard tossed a two-hit shutout and never allowed a runner past second base in a 1-0 victory against the Gators. He walked two and struck out 11 in earning the victory.
The Gents (16-8, 9-1) gave Broussard all the run support he needed in the first inning.
Alex Ashby started the frame with a leadoff triple to left field and scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Luke Ancelet.
LaGrange hurler Jamal West kept the Gents in check the rest of the game by scattering four more hits and striking out two.
Crowley’s Mackay Mouton had three of those hits, including a double. Brett Hebert had a single.
The Gents return to action this evening when they travel to Rayne to take on the Wolves in a key 4-4A tilt.
The Gents and the Wolves each have one district loss with one league game remaining following their matchup.
