CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios may have been short on numbers, but they weren’t exactly lacking in talent.
The Lady Pios, whose 2013-14 roster consisted of only eight players,  had four of their five starters average double figures scoring on the season and walked through District 6-3A play with a perfect 10-0 record this year.
So it came as no surprise that all five Lady Pios were recognized recently when the league’s coaches released their All-District team.
Lady Pios’ coach Nolan Theriot garnered the league’s Coach of the Year honor while Sam Lyons was named the Most Valuable Player.
Alex Miller and Madelyn LeJeune were also named the to the league’s first-team and Gabbie Romero grabbed a spot on the second unit. Hanna Estay was named to the All-Defensive Team.
Theriot guided the Lady Pios to a 24-4 regular-season record after winning 17 straight games heading into the playoffs. His team’s losses were to Class 5A quarterfinalist and No. 4 seed Sulphur and No. 11-seed Northside as well as Class 4A semifinalist and No. 3-seed DeRidder and Class 2A semifinalist and No. 2-seed Lake Arthur.
The Lady Pios entered the Class 3A playoffs as the No. 5 seed and quickly disposed of Evangel, 70-52, in the first round. They then defeated Green Oaks, 57-29, before falling to No. 4 seed Albany, 59-56.
Lyons, a 5-foot 8-inch senior guard, was a guiding force in the Lady Pios’ success. While scoring from the perimeter and in the paint, she averaged 12.1 points per game  while also grabbing 7.4 rebounds and dishing out 4.3 assists.
Miller, also a 5-foot 8-inch senior guard, scored 11.5 points per game and averaged nine rebounds and 5.1 assists. LeJeune, a 5-foot 9-inch junior, led the Lady Pios in scoring with 14.9 points per outing. She also grabbed 8.3 boards and had two assists.
Also earning first-team honors were Erath’s Gabby Harrington and Abbeville’s Arrayia Starland.
Romero heads up the second-team after averaging 10.5 points per game, mostly from beyond the three-point line. The 5-foot-4 senior guard also had 3.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per outing.
Joining Romero on the second team  were Abbeville’s Christina Hackshaw and Bianca Levy as well as North Vermilion’s Simone Pillette and West St. Mary’s Amber Joe.
Estay, a 5-foot 6-inch junior guard who averaged 8.7 points and 8.5 rebounds, was named to the All-Defensive team along with West St. Mary’s Sequoya Ferguson, North Vermilion’s Simone Pillette, Abbeville’s Arrayia Starland and Kaplan’s Lexi Breaux.
On the boys’ side, Notre Dame’s Tre Milstead was named to the 6-3A All-District first-team while Bryce Brandon was tabbed as an honorable mention.
Milstead led the Pios in scoring with 15.5 points per game while also grabbing 7.2 rebounds. Brandon, who hit 43 3-pointers on the year, averaged 9.9 points and 4.4 rebounds.
