St. Martin registrar announces early voting dates
St. Martinville – Early voting for the Saturday, May 2, general election will be held in the offices of the St. Martin Registrar of Voters between Saturday, April 18, and Saturday, April 25, excluding Sunday, Registrar Sue C. Thibodeaux announced.
Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The offices are in the parish courthouse here and at the St. Martin Parish Water District No. 1 building in Stephensville.
For most of the parish, the only question on the ballot is the runoff election between Republican Clyde C. Holloway and Democrat Joe McPherson for the District 4 seat on the state Public Service Commission.
In the April 4 primary, St. Martin voters gave Holloway 973 votes and 1,076 to McPherson. Statewide the vote was nearly 43 percent to 43 percent for the pair, with Crowley’s Gil Pinac, a Republican, being edged out.
Two precincts in lower St. Martin Parish, 1-2 in Belle River and 1-5 in Stephensville, are outside the PSC district but instead have a tax renew on the ballot – 5 mills for 10 years for the water and sewer system.
