St. Martin School Board
By Henri C. Bienvenu
St. Martinville – Frederick Wiltz was named principal of St. Martinville Jr. High School last week effective immediately.
Wiltz, who has served as the school’s assistant principal for almost two years, becomes the fifth person to lead the school since veteran principal Laura Turpeau was promoted to a staff position back in 1999. He succeeds Denise Frederick, who was appointed principal at Breaux Bridge Jr. High earlier this summer.
Turpeau, who recently retired from her staff position, has agreed to serve as SMJH’s acting assistant principal while the board seeks applicants for the job.
Wiltz is a 1989 graduate of Breaux Bridge High School, earned his bachelor’s degree in social studies/English education at UL-Lafayette in 1995 and also holds a M.Ed. degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge.
His education experience includes serving as head basketball coach and assistant football coach at Breaux Bridge Jr. High, and working as technology coordinator while teaching 6th grade at Breaux Bridge Elementary.
He was recommended for the principalship by Supt. Richard Lavergne from a field of seven applicants.
