St. Michael tops CMS in Rice Bowl
CROWLEY – The St. Michael Saints rallied from a 13-point deficit Tuesday, scoring 20 unanswered points in the final three quarters, to claim a 20-13 victory over the Crowley Middle School Gents in the annual Rice Bowl at Gardiner Memorial Stadium.
CMS scored on its opening possession with a 9-yard pass from quarterback Grant Trahan to Darrel Milson in the first quarter. The Gents added to their lead in the second quarter when Mike Augustus scored on a 6-yard run. Jose Contreras’ PAT extended the cushion to 13-0.
The Saints answered before the half when John Michael Besse scored on a nine-yard run to cut the lead to 13-6 at the break.
A 32-yard touchdown pass from Brad Stoma to Jacques Thibodeaux and a PAT from Dustin Reiners in the third quarter tied the game at 13-all before Besse, who also had an interception on the night, added the eventual game winner in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run.
Besse led the Saints with 33 carries for 192 yards. Stoma had four carries for 20 yards and T.J. Bearb rushed once for two yards.
Stoma also completed two passes, one for no gain, and the other Thibodeaux for 32 yards.
Milson paced the Gents’ ground attack with three carries for 127 yards while Trahan had nine carries for 24. Augustus had three carries for eight yards and a touchdown.
Trahan also completed seven of nine pass attempts for 96 yards. He connected with Milson five times for 86 yards and a touchdown and Augustus twice for 10 yards.
