State Police Detectives Investigate Officer Involved Shooting
LAFAYETTE- Today, detectives with Louisiana State Police were requested by the Lafayette City Marshal to investigate a shooting involving one of their agencies deputy marshals.
The initial investigation by detectives indicates that just before 3:00 p.m., a deputy marshal with the Lafayette City Marshals Office was responding to a call for assistance from the Lafayette Police Department. Officers with the Lafayette Police Department were involved in a foot pursuit with 20-year-old Devante Brown of Lafayette. Brown was a suspect in a narcotics transaction which had just taken place. The officers chased Brown to the 100 block Shamrock Drive in Lafayette.
When the deputy marshal arrived in the area, he located Brown. Brown produced a handgun and shots were exchanged between him and the deputy. Brown was struck multiple times, taken into custody and transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The deputy marshal was not injured in the exchange of gunfire.
This case remains under investigation.
