State Police investigating officer-involved shooting
CARENCRO - Today, Louisiana State Police Region 2 Detectives were contacted to investigate an officer involved shooting. The shooting involved a Church Point Police officer.
According to the preliminary investigation, on April 13, 2010, shortly before 2 p.m., a Church Point Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2009 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation. The Camry pulled over and the officer spoke to the driver, twenty-two-year-old Jordy Malbrough of Church Point, as well as a passenger in the car. During the course of the traffic stop, Malbrough fled from the officer in the Camry.
The officer initiated a vehicle pursuit. During the course of the pursuit, the Church Point officer shot the driver. The pursuit continued to Lafayette Parish. The pursuit came to an end when Malbrough lost control of the Camry, and crashed into a ditch on LA 182 in Carencro. After crashing the vehicle, Malbrough fled on foot. With the assistance of Louisiana State Police Troop I, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sunset Police Department, and Carencro Police Department a perimeter was established and Malbrough was taken into custody a short time later. The passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene for questioning and later released.
Malbrough was taken to a local area hospital by Acadian Ambulance for examination. He was treated, released, and arrested. Malbrough was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for an outstanding warrant. The case remains under investigation and further charges on Malbrough are pending.
