Sue Ann Voorhies
LAFAYETTE –– Funeral services were held on Friday, November 4, 2011, at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Sue Ann Voorhies, 69, who passed away peacefully following an extended illness on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her family and friends.
Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Chester Arceneaux, rector, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services. Lector was Karen Bordelon and the giftbearers were Katherine and Ann Clare Fremin and Hayden Gankendorff. Dolly Hawthorne, vocalist, accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel, sang for the services, “Holy God We Praise Thy Name”, “Faith of Our Fathers”, “Ave Maria”, and “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.
Survivors include numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Dan Voorhies; and her parents, Murphy and Ida Arceneaux Gilbert.
A native of Rayne and resident of Lafayette for over 51 years, Sue Ann was a loving friend to all who knew her. She was a dedicated employee of Lafayette Charity Hospital where she worked as a nurse for many years before her retirement. Sue Ann was a faithful member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community in Lafayette. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pallbearers were Philip Fremin II, Reed Fremin, Buddy LeBlanc, Robert Romero, Lewis Bordelon and Philip Fremin, Sr.
A Rosary was recited on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 10:00 AM in Martin & Castille’s downtown location.
The family requested visitation be observed on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana and Drs. Kevin Reed, Steven Lindsey, Chancellor Donald, John Rainey and Robert Romero for their comfort and care.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sue Ann’s name to the Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501.
