Sulphur PD investigating Toys for Tots thefts

SULPHUR – Authorities are currently investigating a string of thefts that led to thousands of dollars worth of toys meant for children of low-income families.

John Lamar, area coordinator for the Southwest Louisiana Toys for Tots program, says that he made the discovery Saturday after he went to collect the toys from the donation bin of a Sulphur store. The store manager informed him that someone had already picked up the toys. Lamar then checked and about 70 other retailers reported the same story that someone claiming to be with Toys for Tots had already been by to collect the donations.

Retailers have been informed to call Lamar whenever someone drops by to pickup toys so he can verify their identity.

Meanwhile, Sulphur police are trying to find the person(s) responsible for the thefts.
