Suspect shot following traffic stop

Louisiana State Police are investigating the shooting of a suspect by a Eunice policeman early Sunday.

That is standard procedure in a shooting involving a law enforcement officer.

The shooting, which superficially wounded the suspect in the shoulder, happened following a traffic stop of a car with three persons in it on West Laurel just before 2 a.m.

When the traffic officer got out of his vehicle, the driver of the suspect vehicle, Troy Douglas Mott, 42, of 2341 Camellia, backed up and struck the police unit, knocking the officer to the ground, the report said.

As support officers arrived and were walking to Mott's BMW, he allegedly accelerated toward them. They fired at him and he turned away, narrowly missing the police officers, the report states.

Mott fled westbound on Laurel, then turned onto North Bobcat, striking a water main near Burger King, and headed north, turning east on Dresser Loop, where he was stopped near the old Dresser Building.

He was taken into custody at that point, taken to Acadian Medical Center, treated and released to the police.

He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated flight from an officer.

His son, Troy Von Gage Mott, 17 of Marksville, was charged with possession of marijuana.

The second passenger was not identified in the report and was not, police said, charged.
